Introduce yourself, tell us about yourself?

I’m Jill and I am a textile artist. My career was working with nursery-age children in Sutton and now I enjoy my art and being with my family. I did a fine art textile A level course at Sutton Adult Learning quite a few years ago where I learnt various textile art techniques such as painting, printing and stitching on fabric, felt making and appliqué.

Since then I have exhibited with different groups at several venues including Sutton Library and Denbies in Dorking. Recently I have been sharing my textile art skills with the Sutton South Hello Group run by the ever enthusiastic Heather and we have enjoyed exhibiting together at Honeywood Museum. At the latest one during the Jubilee I was delighted to make the dress and accessories for the Queen mannequin.

What was the inspiration for your exhibition?

When I found out I was exhibiting in the summer I thought it would be good to show bright coloured textiles and stitching to give a real summer vibe.

What can visitors expect from this exhibition?

Visitors can expect bright colours, fun, a variety of stitch and paint techniques and subjects to give a real feel for the season of summertime.

Have you got any exhibition highlights?

I particularly like the flowers and the fantasy in my work but I think two of my highlights are Woody the Woodpecker and Auburn Hare.

What do you enjoy about displaying your work at Honeywood Museum?

I like the friendly and historic feel Honeywood has and I am particularly happy to be displaying my work in the downstairs art gallery as it is quite compact and shows off my artwork well.
